The California Clean Vehicle Reward is a unique opportunity to purchase or lease a new Battery Electric (BEV) or Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) vehicle. If you do so, you’ll get a reward of up to $750 off the purchase price of your vehicle. But what exactly is the difference between an EV and a PHEV? Continue reading to find out!

 IMPORTANT DATES

Wednesday, August 31, 2022: The last day for participating Retailers to offer the current reward amount of up to $750 to customers.

Thursday, September 1, 2022: To maintain compliance with program requirements and future financial viability of the California Clean Fuel Reward, the reward amount is being temporarily reduced to $0 until further notice.

If you shop for an EV, this means you are shopping for a vehicle that doesn’t have a gas tank and is only run on a battery, which you then charge by plugging in your car either at a charging station if you are on the road, or the charging station you install at your home. A PHEV model is a vehicle that has a large battery to run on like the electric, but still has a small gas tank to back up the vehicle if you run out of miles. You plug it in to charge it, but you can also fill up at the regular gas station as well. This is different from a Hybrid model, which has a small battery, but mostly runs on gas.
